GUM Workbench installation: The file setup shown below is a common installation of GUM Workbench here shown in the Windows 95 operating environment. There are three languages installed. The files Gwb_us, Rpt_us and Exp_us contain English-language texts for the user-interface, the report module and the export module respectively. The corresponding files with names ending in _ge or _dk are for German and Danish-language operation of the software. The file GUMwb with Metrodata icon is the GUM Workbench application while the file GUMwb with generic icon contains set-up parameters for the software. These files must neither be renamed, edited or moved, since this would compromise the correct working of the shofware. The file Logo is optional. If you do not have it in your installation, don't worry about it. What it does is to place the logo of the user-organisation in the right hand corner of printed uncertainty reports. If you do not have the graphics of your choice appear on your report, please contact us. We would be glad to assist you, since this does add a nice touch to GUM Workbench reports. If a logo-file is absent, reports just have an empty field in the right hand corner. |

The files with book-icon in the bottom of the picture contain our extensive on-line help in a number of languages. One book-icon should appear for each language you have installed. Help-files require index-files: When using a help-file, the Windows help-system allows for the creation om index-files. This may take up additional space on your hard disk, nevertheless we strongly recommend to create index-files since it increases the utility of our on-line help. Shown below are the indexfiles (file ending .fts) for three different GUM Workbench help-files.
Next, let us take a look at how data files appear. In the screen-dump below, Ampmeter is the proper uncertainty file. Its full name is Ampmeter.smu. The file Ampmeter.bak has been created as a data-safety and integrety feature during the last save operation of Ampmeter.smu. To return to a .smu-file, always double-click on the .smu file.
Uncertainty files may be placed freely in the file hierarcy. Some people prefer to keep uncertainty files in the same folder as the GUM Workbench application, while others place files according to projectstatus or place them on network-drives for convenient sharing with other users (Requires GUM Workbench multi-user licence). File-names shown here relate to release 1.1k. If you have an installation with other filenames or with some of the languages shown here missing, please contact us. In versions earlier then 1.1k, released may 1998, the application file was named unceval.exe. The policy of Metrodata is to update all previous users to release 1.1k free of charge. (We may have to charge a small handling fee, depending on the service requested). Even users of the free demonstration version of the software may achieve added benefits by upgrading to release 1.1k. Feel free to contach us for further information. |
